FAQ
Got questions about our stencils and cut files? Here’s what you need to know to create bold, beautiful prints with confidence.
Got a question?
Whether you’re wondering about vinyl vs. stencil paper, file access, or how to cut those perfect lines—we’ve answered your most common questions here.
General
What exactly am I buying?
You’re purchasing a digital cut file or stencil design in multiple formats (SVG, DXF, PNG, JPEG, PDF) for screenprinting. No physical stencils are sent—download and start printing.
Are these beginner-friendly?
Yes! The designs are simple to use, especially the stencil files, with no weeding or tiny loose parts to worry about. Great for first-timers or experienced makers.
Can I resize the designs?
Absolutely. The included vector files are scalable without losing quality.
Cutting & Tools
Do I need a cutting machine?
No. You can use a Cricut, Silhouette, or cut by hand using a craft knife and cutting mat. Depending on the design cutting by hand takes some time and practice.
What materials can I use for stencils?
We recommend mylar sheets or similar durable, reusable materials for best results. For the cut files, we recommend adhesive vinyl.
Do I need special ink for screenprinting?
You can use standard screenprinting inks. For fabric, make sure to choose ink suitable for textiles and heat-set it as needed. We love waterbased inks.
Screenprinting Process
How do I use the stencil?
Tape your stencil to the screen and place it on your surface, secure it, flood with ink with a squeegee, then press the ink through, and afterwards carefully lift the stencil. Full instructions are included with your file, or get a sneak peak in this blog article.
What’s the difference between cut files and stencil files?
Both are used for screenprinting, but with a key difference:
Cut File:
The design is cut from adhesive vinyl, weeded, and stuck directly onto the screen.
This creates a one-time stencil effect (until you need to use your screen for another design), but the vinyl isn’t reusable in the same way as stencil paper.
Stencil File:
The design is cut from durable mylar sheets to create a reusable stencil that can be placed on the screen again and again for multiple prints.
Can I reuse the stencil?
Yes! Clean the stencil (mylar sheets or similar) carefully under running water after use and it’s ready for your next project.
